Look out for the sign of healthier food!We are all eating out more often, making these meals an important part of our diet. On average one in every six meals in the UK is consumed outside the home. At the same time we are increasingly aware of the impact of our diet on our health. Messages about reducing our intake of salt, sugar and fat have had an impact and many of us know that making small changes can make a big difference. The Brighton & Hove Healthy Choice Award has been developed to respond to this. Working in partnership with cafés and restaurants, nutritionists help develop healthy menu choices: from simple changes like offering salad dressings on the side and fresh fruit desserts, to changing cooking methods to increase nutritional content. Nurseries, care homes, school breakfast clubs and other organisations can also apply for a Healthy Choice Award. Businesses must have good standards of food hygiene and have achieved a rating equivalent to 3 stars or above in the ‘Scores on the Doors’ scheme before they can apply for the award. Further information can be found here. The Healthy Choice Award is a joint initiative from the Food Partnership, Brighton & Hove City Council and Brighton & Hove NHS to encourage caterers to offer healthier food options in a healthy, clean environment. |
