Nutrition training

The Food Partnership’s Healthy Weight Team delivers courses as part of Brighton & Hove City Council’s Core Skills Development Programme.  These courses can be booked via their website.  These courses are free of charge to Brighton & Hove Council and Children & Young People’s Trust staff.  Voluntary and Community Sector staff and volunteers can also attend for either free or £30, depending on the course.  All others £120.


 

Food and Nutrition for support workers: getting the balance right.  Suitable for those supporting adults in a residential or home setting.

Learning outcomes:

  • Understand the consequences of malnutrition and why vulnerable populations are nutritionally at risk
  • Understand the ‘Eatwell Plate’ and how it is used in relation to health
  • Develop awareness of food labelling guidelines
  • Feel confident using the MUST tool to identify nutritional status and meet nutritional quality requirements
  • Be able to identify key actions as part of a care plan to help service.

Food and Nutrition for early years workers: getting the balance right.  Suitable for those working with the under-5's and their families.  

Learning outcomes:

  • Understand why good nutrition and eating well in the early years matters
  • Be aware of the specific dietary needs for the under-5’s and how to apply them to practice
  • Understand what food and drink to provide throughout the day to ensure good nutrition
  • Understand how childcare settings can help to create healthy eating habits in children
  • Plan how you can apply healthy eating recommendations into practice in your settings.

Food and activity for children: getting the balance right.  An introductory course on these important aspects of well-being, suitable for CYPT, CVS and early years practitioners.  

Learning outcomes:

  • Understand the importance of good nutrition and physical activity for children and young people
  • Recognise if children and young peoples nutritional and physical needs are being met
  • Be able to promote key healthy lifestyle messages to children and their parents/carers
  • Know where to direct families for further support.
