Buying healthy locally grown or produced food is a great way to eat well, reduce food miles and support local shops and farmers.
Buying local food often means that food is fresher, and therefore more nutritious – vegetables lose nutrients when they sit around waiting to be washed, packaged, transported and, finally, eaten. Buying straight from the farmer (at a farmers market or through a veg box scheme, for example) means that you know exactly where your food comes from – it also supports local business and keeps money in the local economy.
