Reducing Waste Action Plan

Why does food get thrown away?

foodLet's face it, we've all done it. The main reasons for throwing away food usually are: cooking or preparing more than you can eat ( for example - cooking too much rice or pasta and leaving the excess in the saucepan or on the plate) or not using food in time (for example - fruit and veg forgotten in the fruit bowl or fridge and going off, or not eating food before it goes past its use-by date).

As they say, life gets in the way. There are lots of hurdles that get in the way of eating our food in time. Our plans change, we forget what food we have in the cupboards, we forget to freeze or chill something to use at a later date, we lack the confidence or knowledge on how to use up our leftovers. But there are measures you can take now that can help to reduce your food waste.
